Turning On or Off the Delete Confirmation Box in Windows 10

The delete confirmation box was disabled with the release of Windows 8 considering that the users’ additional time was consumed in confirming the deletion. Another fact that encouraged Microsoft to take this step was the realization that the users can still restore the files from the Recycle Bin if they were deleted accidently and that the confirmation box was unnecessary.

However Microsoft didn’t remove the deletion confirmation box from Windows completely and it is only disabled by default.

If you are in a habit of seeing the confirmation box every time you delete an object you can enable it by following the steps given below:

  1. Log on to your Windows 10 PC.
  2. From the desktop screen right-click the Recycle Bin icon.
  3. From the context menu click Properties to open the Recycle Bin Properties box.

  1. Once opened check the Display delete confirmation dialog checkbox from the bottom.
  2. Click OK when done to save the changes.

  1. To disable the confirmation box again follow the above steps and uncheck the Display delete confirmation dialog checkbox when on step 4.

Note: Enabling or disabling the delete confirmation box is a user-specific feature which means that no administrator account is needed to change the settings. Also different delete confirmation box settings can be configured for different user accounts in Windows 10.
