How to Reset a Windows 10 Computer without a Bootable Disc
Resetting a Windows 10 computer while keeping or erasing your personal data ensures that your PC reverts back to the factory defaults and starts behaving normally. Generally a Windows 10 installation or bootable disc is needed to reset the computer in case something goes wrong with the operating system and it fails to boot.
However if your Windows 10 computer is behaving obnoxiously but still manages to boot somehow you don’t need a bootable/installation disc and you can initiate the reset process from within the OS itself. All you need in order to get this done is use an administrator account to log on.
You can follow the step-by-step guidelines given below to reset a Windows 10 PC without a bootable/installation disc:
- Sign-in or log on to the Windows 10 computer with an account that has administrative rights on the PC.
- Once on the desktop window click the Start button from the bottom-left corner.
- From the displayed Start menu click Settings from the left section.
- On the SETTINGS window click the Update & security category.
- From the left pane of the UPDATE & SECURITY window click to select the Recovery option.
- From the right pane click the Get started button from under the Reset this PC section.
- From the Choose an option box that appears click Keep my files or Remove everything to reset the computer while keeping or erasing all your personal data and settings from the PC respectively.
- Follow the on-screen instructions from there to complete the Windows 10 reset process.
Note: Alternatively from the right pane of the Recovery option (in step 6) from under the Advanced startup section you can also click the Restart now button and then follow the instructions given in this link or this link to reset your Windows 10 computer with or without removing your personal files respectively.
