How to Configure Windows 10 Action When Power Button Is Pressed
Every laptop computer or desktop PC running Windows 10 would surely have a power button without any exception whatsoever. Normally people are told that Windows must be shut down properly in order to avoid generating any errors in it and to protect the hard disk drive from becoming defective.
People are also told that pressing the power button of the computer for long duration would power off the computer and shut down Windows abruptly hence ending up having corrupt Windows and/or faulty hard disk drive.
All the above statements are true for sure.
However many people don’t know that even the power button can be configured as needed. You can configure your PC’s power button so that when it is pressed Windows hibernates shuts down turns off the display or does nothing at all. Also in case of laptops these settings can configured in both situations i.e. when the laptop is running on battery and when it is plugged in to the power supply.
You can follow the steps given below to configure your preferred Windows’ action when the power button of the PC is pressed:
- Sign-in to your Windows 10 PC with your account.
- Right-click the Start button when on the desktop window.
- From the context menu click Power Options.
- From the Power Options window click the Choose what the power buttons do link from the left pane.
- Once the System Settings window opens from under the Power and sleep buttons and lid settings section from the When I press the power button drop-down lists under both On battery and Plugged in columns choose your preferred Windows 10’s action when you press the power button.
- Once selected click Save changes from the bottom to save the changes that you have made.
